Families with girls wanted there children to to be accepted in higher calss society. Wealthy families were more likley to want their sons to marry girls who were privilaged and beautiful. Foot binding showed that a woman knew her place in society and was ready to care for a family. It increased the amount of control men had over women.
NOT lower classes
Lower class women had to work in fields and small feet did not permit them to do hard labor. Families who farmed or did hard labor were more concerned with the amount of work a female was able to do.
